We recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the Specialty Coffee Association Japan (SCAJ) Expo in Tokyo! 🇯🇵 This annual event is a global gathering for specialty coffee professionals and enthusiasts, and Ply & David were thrilled to participate.
Showcasing at the SCAJ Expo
Our coffee took center stage at several booths, with Ply and David bringing our passion and expertise to the event. They took part in various roles, including guest barista spots and showcasing our coffee at notable booths and launches. We were honoured to be part of events and booths including the Origami Product Launch, Urnex booth, Saza Coffee, 1Zpresso, Panama Geisha, and the Comandante Cup. Ply even played a special role as a champion barista at the product launch of Origami's latest creation: the Asymmetry Cup. ☕️
A New Innovation: The Origami Asymmetry Cup
The Asymmetry Cup, which we will be offering at Rogue Wave in the not-so-distant future, caught the attention of attendees for its innovative design. Crafted with an asymmetrical rim, this cup allows coffee drinkers to experience flavour nuances differently depending on where they sip. The thinner rim highlights flavour and acidity, while the thicker rim brings out the body and texture of the coffee. This versatility offers a tailored tasting experience, ideal for competitions and curated coffee experiences in cafes.

Building Connections
One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip was the chance to connect with a few of the producers and equipment suppliers we work with who share our commitment to quality and innovation. Meeting face-to-face reinforced our collaborations, and we’re excited to carry these strengthened connections forward.
Visiting the Origami Factory in Toki City
In addition to the expo, Ply and David had the opportunity to visit the Origami factory in Toki City. This visit gave them firsthand insight into the artistry and craftsmanship behind Origami’s products, deepening our team’s appreciation for the tools that play such a big role in our coffee craft.
Looking Ahead
This year’s SCAJ Expo and our Origami factory visit were unforgettable experiences, and we’re already looking forward to our future visit. Thank you to everyone who made the trip so memorable, including Origami, 1ZPresso, Saza Coffee, Philocoffea, Kai Janson, Abu Coffee, and Urnex. Here's to more adventures in coffee and the continued growth of the specialty coffee community!
