The Regulators are OREA's newest accessory for the O1 and O2 brewers, built on the same design as the V4 FAST base, with even contact points across the bed and plenty of space for air and water to flow so the brew never chokes or stalls. Where the V4 FAST focused on flow patterns, the Regulators focus on flow regulation: each one has an intentional set maximum output flow rate, giving you predictable control over contact time.
There are three regulators, each with a different maximum flow rate:
- #2 Regulator, dark grey, the slowest maximum flow rate
- #4 Regulator, black, a medium maximum flow rate

#8 Regulator, orange, the fastest maximum flow rate, and compatible with the Hario Switch base.
At the same grind size, recipe, you add 15-30 seconds of contact time as you go from fastest to slowest regulator, depending on coffee, and will predictably increase TDS at the same grind size.
The maximum flow rate enforces a minimum contact time, which lets you grind coarser while still hitting your target brew time. This is useful across a range of coffees: highly soluble, hyper-processed coffees benefit from a slower regulator to avoid overly funky or fermented flavours at finer grind sizes, ultra-light roasts benefit from the added contact time to avoid thin, grassy brews, and more developed roasts can be ground coarser without sacrificing contact time.
The #8 Regulator was paired with immersion brewing specifically for its fast drawdown, allowing a clean, quick release of water after a period of steeping, for hybrid brewing with the Switch.
