Now Hiring: An experienced Coffee Roaster

We are seeking an experienced coffee roaster to join our production team.
Please note:
- This position is based out of our cafe and warehouse space in Edmonton, AB.
- This is a full-time position that requires weekday work.

- Position starts at $25+ per hour depending upon work-experience with an aggressive raise structure as this is a long-term, career oriented position.
- Shared Alberta Blue Cross benefits available after 3 months.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, dependable, detail-oriented, focused, can work independently, and can see tasks through to completion.
As a Production Roaster, you will be responsible for roasting green coffee, quality control of roasted coffee, sample roasting, packaging coffee, and maintenance of equipment. This is a position that works as a team with other people sharing different roles day to day.
You will also be working alongside and involved with related areas of the business:
- Buying green coffee.
- Order fulfillment and shipping.
- Coffee equipment.

- Demonstrate an ability to take care of tasks entrusted to them and find ways to improve efficiency.
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- A driven, passionate person who has experience with specialty coffee and ideally production roasting.
- Have several years of coffee experience. Preferably production roasting experience with preference given to sensory specific experience such as cupping, Q-grader, etc.
- Thrive in a busy, demanding work environment.
- An ability to encourage and bring the best out of the team you are working with.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while working and lift up to 35 kg..
RESPONSIBILITIES
Roast coffee:
- Make roast schedules based on orders and demand.
- Weigh green batches for schedule.
- Roast production batches and barrel beans for packaging.
- Label roasts and take colour data and cupping sample for each batch.
- Roast samples on sample roaster for green buying.
- Restock green coffee from warehouse into green bins in the Roastery.
- Take stock of green inventory and let various teams know about leaving or new coffees as needed.
Production and order fulfillment:
- Make packaging plans based on roast schedule and orders.
- Label and date bags of various sizes as needed for orders, and organize them for packaging.
- Efficiently bag roasted beans using auto-fill machine and band sealer.
- Organize bagged coffee into orders and shop stock and liaise with shipping team to get orders out.
Quality assurance:
- Carefully monitor the roasting process to make necessary changes to the roast to keep it on profile.
- Visually inspect for quality and monitor roast colour with colour meter.
- Regular cupping of all production roast samples for quality control and profile improvement.
- Liaise with cafe for feedback on coffee.
Maintenance:
- Clean Roaster after every roast day.
- Deep clean filters and trays of roaster, and destoner on a regular basis.
- Clean Roastery and bagging area every day.
