This natural-processed Catiope varietal comes from Finca Laderas del Tapias, an estate that's grown coffee in Colombia's Tapias River Canyon since the 1930s. Catiope is a first-generation hybrid of Caturra and an Ethiopian landrace from the CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) collection.

Finca Laderas del Tapias sits in Neira, Caldas, where four farms (Buenos Aires, Puerto Rico, La Graciela, and Villa Inés) come together as one estate within the UNESCO-recognized Coffee Cultural Landscape. The coffee grows between 1,650 and 2,000 metres above sea level in rich volcanic soils — optimal growing conditions for specialty coffee! Of the estate's 106.4 hectares, 70.4 hectares grow coffee and 25 are set aside for forest preservation. That range of land and elevation gives the estate a wonderfully diverse lineup of coffee profiles.

Rodrigo Alberto Pelaez has grown coffee at Laderas del Tapias since 2000 and turned his focus to specialty coffee in 2014. The farm takes its name, "Hillside of Tapias," from the nearby Tapias River. Each cup from this estate showcases the exceptional quality and deep-rooted tradition of its coffee production.
