  • This position is based out of our cafe and warehouse space in Edmonton, AB.
  • This is a part-time position (~20 hours/week to start) that requires availability Monday through Saturday.
  • Position starts at $19 per hour for the first three months.
  • Shared Alberta Blue Cross benefits available after 3 months.

Rogue Wave Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster and equipment seller in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We are highly focused on quality in our coffee and the way we do business. We strive to bring in the best lots from a diverse list of origins and innovative equipment to help people brew and enjoy the most delicious cups. BARISTA OVERVIEW

As a barista at Rogue Wave Coffee, you'll be at the heart of the cafe experience — crafting espresso-based drinks and manual filter coffee, guiding customers through our equipment and retail selection, and keeping the space clean and welcoming. Whether someone's a first-time visitor or a longtime regular, your goal is to make every interaction feel enjoyable and welcoming. This is a team-focused role where clear, kind communication with both customers and coworkers makes all the difference.

On occasion, you'll also be working alongside related areas of the business:

  • Buying green coffee and roasting
  • Order fulfillment and shipping
  • Coffee equipment

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn as many aspects of the production side of coffee as possible. We offer competitive compensation, regular raises, and shared Alberta Blue Cross benefit plans after 3 months.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE LOOKS LIKE THIS

  • Experienced in specialty coffee, ideally as a barista
  • A strong communicator who works well on a team
  • Someone who genuintely enjoys customer interaction
  • Calm and focused under pressure in a busy cafe environment
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable juggling multiple tasks

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Cafe & Beverages

  • Greet customers as they arrive
  • Prepare espresso-based drinks, pourovers, drip coffee, and non-coffee beverages
  • Dial in espresso and steam milk
  • Describe coffee options clearly, including flavour profiles, milk ratios, milk alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Educate customers on our coffees and equipment
  • Process transactions using our POS system

Retail & Sales

  • Assist customers browsing retail bags and coffee equipment
  • Answer product questions and help match customers to the right coffee or gear
  • Restock display shelves and retail coffee bags, pulling from the warehouse as needed
  • Handle exchanges, returns and equipment issues with care and professionalism

Cafe Operations

  • Keep the cafe clean, organized, and safe throughout the day
  • Complete opening and closing tasks, including cleaning and moving patio furniture
  • Collaborate with fellow baristas, roasters, and team members to keep things running smoothly
